Tent House is a private family residence designed by Nha Dan Architects, distinguished by a spatial concept inspired by the expansive structure of a tent. The project explores the seamless flow between interior and exterior environments while thoughtfully responding to environmental challenges in Vietnam’s densely populated urban landscape.

The residence is organized around a series of roof planes that span between two main structural walls. This strategy reduces the need for interior columns and allows for an open, adaptable floor plan. Extending over both indoor and outdoor areas, the roofs create a flowing sequence of spaces that link the garden at ground level with the study above. Circulation routes are designed so that family members transition directly from private rooms into a shared, double-height living area, enhancing visual and spatial connections throughout the house. The layered roof arrangement encourages natural ventilation and daylight, with the building’s orientation and roof shapes carefully designed to maximize environmental efficiency.

Overlapping roof planes give the residence its tent-like form

Openings between the overlapping roof planes frame views of the surrounding greenery and cityscape, while also drawing daylight deep into the home. Operable glass louvers help control airflow, promoting cross-ventilation during hot weather and shielding interiors from intense rainfall during the monsoon.

Through its structural approach, environmental sensitivity, and spatial arrangement, Tent House by Studio Nha Dan Architects creates a continuous living space that harmoniously blends everyday life with natural light, fresh air, and the landscape. The finished form, characterized by its layered roof planes, evokes the image of a large tent, which inspired the project’s name.
