CLIMATE-RESPONSIVE AND MATERIAL DESIGN THROUGH NATURAL FIBERS

Caneplexus translates natural fibers such as bamboo, rattan, and seagrass into active elements across hospitality and residential architecture. The natural ceilings, partitions, and shading elements become tools for shaping nature-friendly atmospheres, functioning as breathable layers within a space. This work reflects strong acceptance from the community of architects and designers, and makes the company a key partner for climate-responsive and material driven design.

Within a minimalist design approach, Unda Hotel, designed by Ixnos Architects, incorporates an extensive use of natural materials, such as stone, timber, and woven cane. These elements, combined with the planted roofs, seamlessly integrate the building volumes into Corfu’s landscape, creating an organic connection between the architecture and the natural environment.

CANEPLEXUS ADAPTS WOVEN SYSTEMS FOR CONTEMPORARY solutions

Rooted in traditional craftsmanship, Caneplexus adapts woven systems for contemporary applications. Their wide range of options in natural building materials includes panels from bamboo, willow, branches, foliage, handmade weaves, and wallpapers lined with natural materials. For each product, the brand goes through a selective cultivation, considering a specific harvest time, natural drying, and hot air drying when necessary. The quality control is carried out by local partners while being subjected to careful inspection for a wide variety of qualities, forms, and types before and during import.

In the Cabo Hotel, Ixnos Architects, made a functional unification of the complex, achieved through a contemporary reinterpretation of the traditional Corfiot arch, which has been geometrically modified to inject a strong dynamic into the verticality of the openings. Concurrently, the deliberate terracing and stepping down of the spatial levels ensure uninterrupted, sweeping views of the sea from every vantage point and lounge area across the site.

NATURE-FRIENDLY HOSPITALITY AND RESIDENTIAL PROJECTS

In recent years Caneplexus has contributed with its know-how to the realization of projects such ‘O Lofos’ by Block722 studio. The large-scale residential project is designed to be a discreet modern house based in the northern foothills of Thrypti mountain in Greek. Rich in organic minimalism and craftsmanship, the house features Caneplexus’ willow natural and mahogany bamboo, balancing the materials’ natural, tactile nature and the overall craft-rich approach. Block722 studio also relied on Caneplexus’ expertise for the Olea All Suite Hotel,  extending  the brand partnership  to the hospitality sector. The resort-like retreat is immersed in the natural landscape of Zakynthos Island, showcasing Caneplexus’s bamboo branches and handwoven panels in various social and private spaces.

For the renovation of the Four Seasons Astir Palace Hotel carried out by K-studio, the design team relied on Caneplexus to create a modern taverna, which honors the Greek tradition of sharing meals in a beachfront location. Its structure and volume blend with the landscape instead of competing with modern architectural designs. Set on two levels, the project features a handwoven panel by willow peeled, covering its terrace with a dynamic geometry that guides circulation within the spaces intersected with stone pathways.

At the Antigoni Beach Resort in Chalkidiki, Greece, Caneplexus’s room dividers are used to provide areas of privacy, while allowing natural light to enter throughout the room. The layout update by TAKA+PARTNERS in 2021 focused on the space optimization for well-being, promising a purifying and transformative experience through a sensory design. From the bed headboard, framing the sleeping area with its extension to the ceiling to the wet spaces designed for tranquility, the project explores earthy textures, tones and materials that match the existing landscape, creating a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere.
