A stone and steel bridge in the Cairngorms, designed by Scottish practice Moxon Architects and shortlisted for the RIAS Andrew Doolan Best Building in Scotland Award, is featured in this video produced by Jim Stephenson.
The film is part of a series published by Dezeen in partnership with the Royal Incorporation of Architects in Scotland (RIAS) to showcase the 2025 shortlist for the annual award.
In the video, viewers are introduced to the Gairnshiel Jubilee Bridge, a project by Moxon Architects intended to redirect traffic away from the neighbouring 250-year-old Gairnshiel Bridge.

According to studio founder Ben Addy and Aberdeenshire Councillor Geva Blackett, the Gairnshiel Jubilee Bridge was conceived as a “sibling to the existing bridge,” combining a practical purpose with an elegantly shaped design inspired by its historic neighbour.
“With the existing structure, you’ve got the sort of very slender arch that then widens out,” Addy explained.
“We took inspiration from that with the new structure where we’ve got our wing walls [that] also taper off into the landscape,” he added.
Established in 2002, the Andrew Doolan Best Building in Scotland Award recognises significant Scottish architectural projects each year. The winner for 2025 will be announced on 5 December.
RIAS highlighted that this year’s shortlist of four projects ranges from rural infrastructure to urban public-realm developments, celebrating architecture’s connection with other disciplines.
Alongside the Gairnshiel Jubilee Bridge, the shortlist includes the renovation of Union Terrace Gardens by Stallan-Brand and LDA Design, the restoration of Fairburn Tower by Simpson & Brown, and The Nucleus Building by Sheppard Robson.
