Dezeen features editor Nat Barker has been honoured as Architectural Journalist of the Year at the esteemed International Building Press Awards 2025.
Barker received the award during a ceremony in central London last week, recognised for his “depth and craft in storytelling”.
The judging panel commented, “Nat won this category because of his excellent and varied work, which showed depth and craft in storytelling throughout.”
This achievement marks the second consecutive year that a Dezeen editor has won the International Building Press’ (IBP) Architectural Journalist of the Year award, following editor Tom Ravenscroft’s win last year.
Barker’s writing over the past year was highly praised, including a detailed feature on the challenges facing the design and architecture industry, a thoughtful opinion piece on the role of the lead architect in the Grenfell Tower tragedy, and an in-depth exploration of Norman Foster’s rise to become the most successful architect in history.
The judges noted, “His survey of the broken employment industry was a thorough piece of research that had taken several months and resulted in record levels of engagement.”
They continued, “The comment piece on Grenfell could only have been written by someone with deep knowledge of the tragedy and was the most moving piece the judges read in this category.”
“His appreciation of Norman Foster resonated with readers interested in Foster’s legacy and impact. Although largely positive, the article was recognised as a balanced account of his career.”
