The top 10 skyscrapers of 2025

As part of our Review of 2025, we revisit the 10 most notable skyscrapers of the year, featuring projects such as a striking pair of towers in Argentina and an impressive supertall in New York.

HEMAA skyscraper New York

Ferrocarril de Cuernavaca 780, Mexico, by HEMAA

HEMAA designed an elegant, slender skyscraper in Mexico City, reminiscent of New York’s iconic Flatiron Building. The 13-storey tower, with its black structural steel facade, was shaped by its unique site—wedged between a street and the historic remnants of the Ferrocarril de Cuernavaca Railroad.

“It required imagination to envision a graceful tower adapting to this challenging setting,” stated the HEMAA team.

“Much like resilient plants thriving against the odds, this tower was conceived to unfold and defy expectations.”

Buenos Aires skyscraper

Huergo 475, Argentina, by Adamo Faiden

Huergo 475 stands out in Buenos Aires with its green-pigmented concrete and a series of dramatic cantilevers. Designed as a residential building, it was envisioned to be both monolithic and seamlessly integrated into the urban landscape.

“The exposed concrete facade not only fulfills a structural role but also shapes the project’s visual identity,” explained studio co-founder Marcelo Faiden.

“We created a grooved formwork to achieve a monolithic look, softening the concrete’s presence and enhancing the building’s texture.”

Arguably the most prominent skyscraper completed this year is 270 Park Avenue in New York, designed by UK-based Foster + Partners for JPMorgan Chase. As the tallest building completed in 2025, it serves as the financial giant’s new headquarters.

The 1,388-foot (423.1-metre) tower features a tiered, setback profile inspired by early 20th-century skyscrapers, and is supported by robust columns that rise from recessed entry facades.

West Palm Beach office building by SOM

The One Flagler, USA, by SOM

The One Flagler in West Palm Beach draws on Florida’s tropical modernism, its white concrete facades evoking the feel of trellises.

Built next to a historic beaux-arts Scientist church, the office tower was carefully designed to complement its architectural surroundings while establishing itself as a new local landmark.

“At its base, One Flagler respectfully complements the historic church; at its summit, it sets a bold new marker for the coastline,” said SOM partner Chris Cooper.

The twin Yachthouse towers in Balneário Camboriú, southern Brazil, attracted global attention this year. At 294 metres, they are now the tallest buildings in the country, set amid a surge of high-rise development in the city.

“Our aim with Yachthouse was not only to construct Brazil’s tallest building, but to create an architectural icon defined by performance, elegance, and innovation,” said Samuele Sordi, chief architect officer at Pininfarina.

“The remarkable height fulfills this vision, delivering breathtaking views, a luxurious living experience, and a standout presence on the skyline.”
