“Four out of nine” cubes completed on Miami’s first supertall skyscraper

Miami’s first supertall skyscraper, destined to be the city’s tallest, is currently rising in Downtown Miami. Four of the building’s nine offset glass cubes have now reached structural completion.

Designed by Sieger Suarez Architects in collaboration with Uruguayan architect Carlos Ott, the Waldorf Astoria Hotel & Residences Miami will ultimately reach 100 storeys and stand at 1,049 feet (319.7 metres) when finished. This will make it both a supertall skyscraper and the tallest building in Miami.

The structure is composed of nine glass cubes stacked vertically and slightly offset from one another, a feature first revealed in conceptual images released in 2022.

Upon completion, it will be Miami’s first finished supertall skyscraper, outpacing other planned towers like the Dolce & Gabbana project and an upcoming Foster + Partners design.

According to the development team, concrete has been poured up to the 50th floor, which means four of the building’s nine cubes are now structurally finished.

“The project has successfully poured 50, or half, of its 100 floors and is rapidly progressing with an average of pouring one floor every 10 days,” the team stated.

“With the completion of the 50th floor, four of the tower’s signature glass cubes now rise above the Miami skyline, offering a first glimpse of the iconic silhouette taking shape,” the statement continued.

Construction photographs also reveal that glass cladding has been installed on the lower levels, and two large cranes and extensive scaffolding are visible along the building’s full height.
