Architecture firm Gensler has collaborated with manufacturer Acme Brick to complete a mixed-use development in Austin inspired by the city’s historic warehouse district.
Called Centro West, the project features two five-storey buildings and offers a total of 330,000 square feet of mixed-use space.
Situated in East Austin’s Saltillo Transit-Oriented Development district, Gensler drew inspiration from the materials and proportions of the area’s industrial heritage.

Acme Brick provided more than 230,000 bricks in seven different colors, creating visually distinct facades on both buildings.
Within Plaza Saltillo, the development includes over 17,000 square feet of public parkland, featuring elevated walkways and an expansive rain garden.
A central plaza serves as a communal hub, while a through-block alley park links the buildings’ lobbies and accommodates public art and ground-floor retail spaces.

Alongside residential and commercial spaces, the project integrates public amenities and provides venues for future cultural events and programming.
Established in 1891, Acme Brick operates 15 brick plants in four US states and produces bricks in 227 colors.
Recent projects by Acme Brick in Texas include a renovation featuring two-tone clay bricks and an office building with a pearlescent finish.
